"broken" mimi's

Today's the day...we are going to attempt to wean Isabel off her paci aka mimi. We put her down for her first nap without one...well, we gave her a broken (cut the tip off) one and she did NOT like that. She was not amused that her prize possession was "broken." And quite frankly, she threw it at me. I told Lee I have so many mixed emotions about it. She loves her mimi's so much and I feel bad she doesn't need them anymore, but at the same time her obsession (and it really is one) is taking over. She wants them constantly. She cries and whines for them. I think, is this the right time? Maybe it's not a good time. Maybe we should wait a little longer. But no, I know we are doing the right thing. I just feel bad. My dad jokes she needs "Celebrate Recovery for Mimi's."

So please pray for us the next couple of days as we try to rid our house of paci's.

The good news is, she cried for about 20 min. and then fell alseep. I was expecting longer, so that is good.

Superbowl Poll

Who will you cheer for? Place your vote. I will say that I am cheering for the Steelers...BECAUSE certain close friends, who's names I will not mention, but come from Pittsburgh, said they couldn't be friends with us anymore if we didn't cheer for them.:) I guess this tells you how much we love you guys huh?

Powerless

Literally. We were without all day...about 10 hours. I wanted to take pictures of our snowy day, but our camera battery was dead, and well...with no power I couldn't charge it.

It's amazing how automatic your mind works. I don't even know how many times we tried turning on lights in various rooms.

Isabel was wanting to watch Elmo and we were trying to explain to her that we had no power and the TV wouldn't work. She loves turning on the radio on our bedside clocks, so Lee thought to show her that the music doesn't come on when she pushes the button, like it normally does. However, we forgot there was a backup battery in the clock so the music came on anyway. Bad example. Needless to say her persistence to watch Elmo continued:)

Thanks to some friends, we left around dinner and were able to get warm for a few hours at their house, eat, and hangout. Thanks guys!

We're finally back home and I feel tired even though we didn't do much all day. Lee's out shoveling our driveway, so our car doesn't get stuck (for the third time) tomorrow when I have to leave for work.

Hope all our other fellow Kentuckians are doing okay!

iPod, iPhone, iTunes

And the newest version, iBel. At least that's what she calls herself.

Somersaults

Last night Isabel was trying to do one of the things she loves to try to do...somersaults. She stands on her head and waits for either Lee or I to flip her the rest of the way over. In the interest of entertainment for her (ha, ha) I attempted to demonstrate how to accomplish a somersault on her own. I now know why kids do somersaults and not adults. Lee also put on a demonstration for her. For the next 15 min. she didn't want to do somersaults, all she wanted to do was watch Mommy and Daddy do them. We finally told her we were "all done" and that seemed to get her started trying on her own again.

So why am I thinking about this? Well, today at church Lee was doing sound in the children's sanctuary where they have Kidz Jam, a time of singing for the children. Isabel and I were waiting for him to get done. She was dancing and listening to the music. All of sudden she runs back to the sound booth where Lee is and ask him to do a somersault in motions and a few words. How her mind thought of that of that moment I have no clue.

I really am pregnant

I knew there was something I was going to blog about today and I just couldn't remember what it was...oh yea...duh...I finally went to the Dr. yesterday. I guess my pregnancy is showing in my memory. The appt. was really short and sweet. The Dr. said I look good, the baby looks good, and that was that. We also got to do an ultra-sound and see it's arms and legs kicking, spine, and heart beating. Isabel really liked watching the baby on the screen, but I think she wasn't quite sure why it looked different than baby Kate or her baby dolls. The ultra-sound picture isn't that clear, but you can at least tell there is a baby in there. I think Isabel will be a great big-sister. Today she was helping me pat Kate's back to burp her, and she loves kissing her. It will be fun to see. It's at least nice to see that I really am pregnant. You know when you start feeling better towards your second trimester you are kind of like...I feel good, I'm not really showing...is there really a baby in there? I'm sure I will be feeling the baby and showing soon enough...Lord willing, I'll have many months feel pregnant:) The Dr. said he can give me something for my headaches if need be, but I'm going to try to get through it without anything. I've only had one terrible one this week so hopefully they will stop soon enough.

If you think of it, please pray for a girl who I knew in college, Jill. I found out yesterday she went into labor and lost her baby at 20 weeks this past weekend. I can't even imagine her loss. Thanks.

Cookies n things

Isabel helped us bake cookies the other night. I know this would probably be a disgrace to some of you bakers, but I think it was the first time we made homemade cookies since she was born. We are more of "place and bake" people. You know, you buy the dough, put it on the tray, and wa-la you have instant cookies. Anyway, Isabel was a great helper. She helped mix the dough and then place the little balls on the tray. It was kind of funny though when she was mixing the dough she would only use one hand.

Isabel has really been interested in jackets, sweaters, fleeces, sweatshirts, anything that zips up. If she find one she wants to put it on. This morning she saw me put on a sweater and she immediately started saying, "jacket, jacket." Daddy's fleece was close by so we tried it out and she loved it.

Nordine Updates

Isabel
  • Talking, talking, and more talking. I think since Christmas Isabel's vocabulary has tripled and it was already large. Where does she learn things like, "help me?" Maybe Cydney can shed light on that one?:)
  • Is still infatuated with her "mimi" aka paci and Elmo.
  • Loves some new Curious George books she got for Christmas. She wants to read them multiple times during the day. It's so cute to hear her say "George."
  • Isabel is also infatuated with her friend baby Kate. She loves saying, "hi baby," multiple times to her.
Lee
  • Busy with work.
  • Busy taking care of me and Isabel when I'm too tired to do much of anything.
  • Just hung up some new pictures in his office that his sister designed. They are from a "Names of God" series she did for an art class. As a birthday present to him she let him pick some to display in his office. Really cool. I'll have to post pictures soon, or stop by his office at church and see them. His office now looks less "hospital like."
Candace
  • Feeling more like normal and less morning sickness everyday. I can't complain, it really hasn't been bad at all. I've had headaches more than anything, but am learning to deal with those.
  • Still waiting to see the Dr. next week. Excited it's almost here. Almost out of my first trimester.
  • Started watching 3 kiddos Monday's and Wednesday's - it makes for interesting/fun days.
I guess that's about all. Just wanted to give a few updates on the Nordine clan.
